Do I have the right vehicle for hire?
You bought your motorhome to fulfil your needs; the right size, the right layout. Chances are if you enjoy travelling in your motorhome then others will too. Every customer has a different requirements, location, number of berths, layout, weight. You cannot satisfy every customer but we will strive to place customers with as many members as we can. Even old vehicles are in demand by some hirers, perhaps those looking for a cheaper alternative, so there is no reason why your motorhome could not be successful with us.
We are often contacted by people wishing to purchase a motorhome specifically for hire. This can be a risky move as nobody can guarantee the amount of success you will achieve and it is always best to buy a motorhome which suits your own needs. However if you do wish to bear hire in mind when choosing a motorhome, here are some helpful suggestions:
- Motorhomes with maximum masses below 3500kg (3.5 tons) can be driven by all hirers and no C1 or equivalent licence is needed. A heavier motorhome may limit the number of hires you can achieve.
- The number of seatbelts is essential when determining how many people can travel safely in a motorhome. A 6 berth motorhome with 2 belted seats is not desirable to many hirers. Ensure that the number of belted seats matches the number of berths to maximise bookings.
- A new 6 berth motorhome may be the most desirable to hirers however purchasing new can make the hire cost restrictive to some parts of the market. Purchasing a 2-3 year old motorhome may prove more profitable. Depreciation is high in the first year particularly because of the VAT paid.
- Think about useful extras; awnings and air conditioning are some of the most frequently requested features that do not come as standard with all motorhomes.
There are also things that all motorhome owners can do to maximise their chances of hiring:
- Offer airport collection to attract hirers from overseas. You can charge this at cost and can arrange a taxi or complete the journey yourself.
- Offer bedding and towel packs for a small charge. This can also help attract hirers from overseas who cannot bring bedding on planes.
- Equip your motorhome with the extras you enjoy. Small things such as a TV, DVD player, Bike Rack or Sat Nav can be deciding factors when customers choose motorhomes.
- Purchase child and booster seats available to cater for family hires.
- When listing with Motorhome Group, take the time to select attractive photographs to best show your motorhome and include as much detail in the description about the extras you offer.
We are always here to help you achieve the most from your motorhome and will work with you at all times to ensure that booking are attained. Please call us to learn more.
