Inverness Airport (INV) Information
Inverness is often referred to as the capital of the Scottish highlands. The Airport like many United Kingdom airports bases started life as an RAF base until in 1947, when it was transferred to the British Civil Aviation Authority.
In the 1970's British European Airways began flights to London Heathrow. By 1983 Heathrow airport flights where cancelled by British European Airways. Dan Air took over the route, services where extended to Gatwick and Manchester airports.
Dan Air was very successful and was eventually taken over by British Airways in 1992. Under British Airways ownership the service was abruptly cancelled in 1997. BMI have re-established the daily flight route between Inverness Airport and Heathrow.
In June 2009, other successful routes were opened with Lufthansa to Dusseldorf, Germany.
