One of the West Midlands’ most visited towns is Stratford-upon-Avon, known best for being the birthplace of playwright and poet William Shakespeare (1564 – 1616). The Royal Shakespeare Theatre (home to the Royal Shakespeare Company) and Shakespeare’s Houses and Gardens are popular with tourists.
