Travel Insurance
Whether you are booking a weekend trip away in the UK or a 4-month excursion around Europe, it is beneficial to have a good insurance policy to cover your trip. Many insurers will allow cover to be taken out for a UK holiday, even if you are already a UK resident or citizen. A 2-night minimum stay is often required to acknowledge your trip as a holiday or as leisure travel. Travel policies usually offer coverage for holiday cancellation and delays. This does not mean that if you choose to cancel your holiday, you will be reimbursed. A cancellation may require a reason outside of your control to qualify, such as an illness. Some policies do allow you to cancel at your own discretion, but these policies may cost more. Travel insurance is most useful if you experience delays or problems during your trip that affects subsequent travel. For example, if your flight is delayed and this requires you to miss a train, your insurance policy could cover you for the cost of a new train ticket and maybe even overnight accommodation. Useful policies will also cover you for lost luggage or stolen money or possessions such as cameras. Often you will not be covered for large amounts of cash or expensive items such as laptops. Perhaps these items will be covered under your home insurance policy instead; always check before leaving to be on the safe side.
